Mario Cantone is an actor, comedian, singer and writer whose singular career has moved between Broadway, television, film, stand-up and the talk-show table without ever lowering the volume.
Audiences know him around the world as Anthony Marentino, the hilariously unfiltered wedding planner introduced on HBO’s Sex and the City. Mario returned to the role in both feature films and as a series regular across all three seasons of Max’s And Just Like That…, giving Anthony new depth, romance and some of the sharpest lines in New York.
In 2026, Mario returned to the Shubert Theatre as part of the Broadway company of Celebrity Autobiography. He is a Tony Award nominee for his acclaimed one-man show Laugh Whore, written and performed by Mario and directed by Joe Mantello. The production moved from Broadway’s Cort Theatre to a Showtime special filmed live on stage.

Mario originated Samuel Byck in the Tony-winning revival of Stephen Sondheim and John Weidman’s Assassins. His Broadway credits also include Buzz in Terrence McNally’s Love! Valour! Compassion!, Gidger in Richard Greenberg’s The Violet Hour, and Stephano opposite Patrick Stewart in The Tempest.
Off-Broadway, he originated roles in The Crumple Zone and Steve, and starred opposite Ralph Macchio in A Room of My Own.

From Steampipe
to Sex and
the City.
Mario first became a New York institution as the host of the cult children’s show Steampipe Alley. He later appeared more than 150 times on The View as a guest and guest co-host. Additional television credits include Men in Trees, Better Things, Girls5eva, Mom, AJ and the Queen, Hindsight, The President Show, Chappelle’s Show and The Masked Singer.
His film work includes Robert Redford’s Quiz Show, The Aristocrats, In Stereo, both Sex and the City films and the animated feature Surf’s Up.
